Per Enflo, seminarier och lunchkonsert

Per Enflo från Kent State Univestiy, Ohio, gästar institutionen vid ett antal tillfällen nu i vår och kommer då att ge två parallella seminarieserier, en i operatorteori och en om matematik och antropologi.

Lokal: Glashuset

För operatorserien: Jag kommer först att gå igenom grundläggande teori för operatorer på Banachrum och deras spektrum. Sedan kommer jag att gå igenom olika aspekter av problemet om invarianta underrum, både för allmänna Banachrum och för Hilbertrummet.

För antropolgiserien: Jag kommer att gå igenom information vi har om tidiga människor - särskilt neandertalare - från DNA och fossil och andra typer av fynd. Sedan kommer jag att ge några matematiska modeller, som kan ge en uppfattning om, vilka scenarier om deras öde, som är konsistenta med denna information.

Förutom seminarieserierna kommer Per att ge en pianokonsert, preliminärt tisdag den 15 april vid lunchtid i Keyhuset. Ett preliminärt förslag till program är: 6 preludier från op. 34 av Sjostakovitj Sonat i F dur av Haydn Sonat op.31 no 2 av beethoven (Spöksonaten).

Gender and Equality

Den 12 mars kl. 13.15 talar Lina von Sydow, Institutionen för informationsteknologi, Uppsala Universitet, om

Gender-aware course-reform in Scientific Computing

Abstract: The aim of the project is to thoroughly reform the introductory courses in scientific computing. Gender awareness will encompass all changes, with the intent purpose of rendering the courses more attractive for female students, and thus broadening the recruitment basis for the courses, the subject, and the study programs in which the courses are given. In a long term perspective, we see this revision as part of a larger scale reformation of the engineering programs. We are using a student centered pedagogy that supports the students' construction of meaningfulness through highlighting the subject's interdisciplinary nature and role in society. The pedagogical model is based on action research cycles in which the students are given the opportunity to act, observe, reflect, and finally revise.
