Optimization
Education
The division of optimization at Linköping university gives 20 courses to 1000 students each year, where most of the civil engineering programs and the mathematical program take at least one compulsory course. The courses in optimization include modeling, theory, and solution methods of optimization problems in mainly the areas linear, nonlinear, network and integer optimization.
The division of optimization also gives a number of supplementary courses in optimization, including for example advanced modeling, Lagrangean relaxation, subgradient optimization, column generation, decomposition methods, heuristics, and meta heuristics. The main part of the optimization courses is using AMPL and CPLEX as a model language and optimization solver.
Optimization has a strong connection to real life applications. Some applications are production, route planning, scheduling, network design, facility location, and finance.
Each year, the optimization group examines approximately 10 master thesis.
